Who is Noront Resources?

Noront is a Toronto-based mining company which trades publicly on the Toronto Stock Exchange Venture Exchange (TSX-V). The company purports to hold 72% of all claims in the Ring of Fire region and its sole focus in terms of its current projects is on that region.

Its five major proposed projects include Eagle’s Nest, Blackbird, and Black Thor, Black Label, and Big Daddy, where the primary metals are nickel-sulphide and chromite. Marie, Ontario would be the location of its ferrochrome smelter facilities, projected to begin operation in 2025.

An August, 2019 statement from current Ontario Minister of Energy, Mines, Northern Development and Indigenous Affairs, Greg Rickford states that “Despite over a decade of talk and more than $20 million invested, real progress on the Ring of Fire has been met with delay after delay. That’s why Ontario is taking a new, pragmatic approach to unlocking the Ring of Fire’s potential, one that includes working directly with willing First Nation partners who want to move at the speed of business, to ensure sustainable development.” Notably, Rickford sat on Noront’s Board, but stepped down in December, 2017.
