It was a slow news week except for an interview with Noront Resources CEO Alan Coutts addressing community concerns and timelines related to Noront’s Ring of Fire projects. According to Coutts, he is not surprised that community members in Sault Ste. Marie and Batchewana First Nations are concerned about the impacts of the proposed smelter – and he would expect that any community chosen for the project would be concerned.
Coutts also clarifies that First Nation communities whose territories require roads in order to transport that chromite to the proposed Sault Ste. Marie smelter are themselves responsible for the Environmental Assessment and Noront is simply a “very interested party”.

“Over the past few months there has been quite a bit of publicized opposition and non endorsement by local SSM groups and the Batchewana First Nations that do not want the ferrochrome smelter that Noront Resources is proposing to build in Sault Ste.
