The news this week focused on the tensions that Indigenous communities are facing around which competing threats to their safety should be prioritized in addressing. As always, these tensions are not new, but merely exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

‘An added burden’: First Nations under water advisories speak of greater risks with COVID-19

Communities halting construction on clean drinking water solutions say they face an unfair choice: ‘protecting yourself from one health risk in order to eliminate another one.’

“First Nations under boil-water advisories face greater challenges following public health guidelines to prevent and contain the spread of COVID-19, which is also causing construction delays in some communities that have been waiting years for clean drinking water.” Read more here…
